A client asked me the other day about Feldenkrais and I thought I'd take the time to do some research and see what is was all about.
What is it? The Feldenkrais Method is a process for improving human life through breathing, posture, awareness of sensation and movement. Is it popular? In Australia, more than 1000 people use the technique of all ages and sizes. What underpins the philosophy? It is based on neuroplasticity which effectively means rewiring of the nervous system. What does a session with a practitioner look like? Practitioners use movement, touch, guided imagery and mindful body awareness to stimulate the brain to make useful and lasting improvements to movement and posture. Do practitioners have to be trained? Yes there are many experienced practitioners who have undergone a certification process. How can Feldenkrais help? Proponents of the method claim it can help manage pain and musculoskeletal injuries. People often report improvements in their movement, posture and subjective sense of well-being.

Do YOU want weight loss?
Here's the easiest 3 step plan that always works. 1. Set a target You need a timeframe - 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 26 weeks, 52 weeks. Then weigh yourself daily. Decide how much weight loss you'd like to achieve. Usually, they say that 5% of your body weight is clinically significant - as in losing this much will improve your health. If you're BMI is >30 then I suggest aiming for 10% as a start. Then put the information into this weight tracker and it will show you the rate of weight loss. https://www.niddk.nih.gov/bwp 2. Set a plan by deciding which weight loss methods to use. There are a number of methods which have google levels of evidence supporting their use. These include: - Diet. - Exercise. - Meal replacements. - VLEDs. - Weight loss medications. - Liposuction. 3. Create accountability. If I told you that you'd have to give me $1,000,000 if you didn't achieve your goal, I think you'd be pretty motivated to make sure you did everything you could to make it. This is an example of accountability. Others find another person to make themselves accountable to. Personal trainers, dietitians and doctors are examples of these people. |
